Bouncing back from mixed bypoll election results, BJP eyes crushing 2022 UP elections

UP – It’s not the end, till it is the end! That’s the mantra Bharatiya Janata Party is abiding by as it gears up for upcoming UP elections in 2022. Crushing defeat in bypoll elections in West Bengal and Himachal Pradesh has bared down heavily on the saffron party as it takes urgent reparative measures.

In this direction, the Centre has announced a reduction in excise duty on diesel and petrol, the prices that were burning a big hole in common man’s pocket. Now the Uttar Pradesh’s Yogi government to has announced additional fuel price cut and also has extended the free ration scheme across the state till the festival of Holi. These decisions by BJP governments in Centre, as well as multiple states, will give an advantage to the party in the upcoming winter Parliament session and state elections in 2022.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath made the announcements of reliefs by government on Wednesday while addressing a gathering in Ayodhya. Speaking about the ration scheme that was introduced during Covid-19 pandemic, CM Yogi Adityanath said, “The scheme of free ration will be extended till Holi. Fifteen crore people will have its benefits every month – every Antyodaya cardholder will get not only get 35 kg of rice/wheat but also pulses, oil and salt with it on their card. They will also get sugar every month.”

A senior BJP party leader admitted that these moves by party are all “calculated” keeping in mind upcoming UP elections that is a crucial state for party. But they have rejected speculations that rising fuel prices were the reason for BJP’s humiliating defeat in West Bengal and Himachal Pradesh. “If the fuel prices were the reason for the people to vote against the BJP, we would not have made significant gains in Assam, Madhya Pradesh and Telangana. BJP’s defeat in three assemblies and in the Mandi Lok Sabha seat and the poor performance in Rajasthan as well as the Hanagal Assembly seat in Karnataka have several other reasons. The party has to look into it,” said a senior party leader.
