Bad News For Indian Amazon Prime Users as it ends Password Sharing and Less Features in 2025
Starting in January 2025, Amazon Prime members in India will see less benefits for their money. Customers nationwide have been informed by the firm of a significant change that would impact their ability to watch on larger screens and other devices. For its Prime customers in India, Amazon has also implemented new password sharing guidelines. Prime subscribers will only be able to sign into a maximum of five devices beginning in January 2025. A maximum of two TVs is also included in this limit.
In recent years, other well known streaming services like Netflix have altered their viewing policies and now Amazon also is prepared to discontinue support and restrict your access to its television series and films.
The official statement from the company states, “As part of your Prime membership, you and your household are entitled to enjoy Prime Video on up to five devices. Starting January 2025, we are updating our usage terms in India to include up to two TVs as part of your five devices entitlement. You can manage your devices on your Settings page or buy another Prime membership to watch Prime Video on more devices.”
As of now users can login to ten devices simultaneously with Amazon Prime subscription. TVs, tablets, computers and phones are all on this list. But the new regulations will lower this number to five.
Additionally, current Amazon Prime members have 30 days to “remove and replace up to 2 existing devices” under the new rules. This implies that you now have up to 30 days to deregister or remove up to two devices from your account if you have multiple devices registered. During this time you can also swap out these two gadgets.
This is a significant setback for customers who pay Rs 1,499 per year to access Amazon’s package of services that come with the Prime membership. Another intriguing aspect of the message is the usage of the term household which has grown active and relevant for Netflix users in recent years.
Amazon Prime membership levels in India begin at Rs 299 per month, Rs 599 for a quarterly subscription and Rs 1499 for an annual membership. Additional alternatives include the Annual Prime Lite plan at Rs 799 and the Prime Shopping Edition at Rs 399 per year. Following the policy change which will take effect in January 2025, Prime Video membership perks will include unrestricted ad-free streaming and access on up to five devices with compatibility for up to two TVs.
This is Amazon’s attempt to limit password sharing, following a similar step by competitor Netflix. This company believes that the move has benefited it by driving subscription growth.
