New Rules From August 1, 2026: Key Changes in ITR Filing, CKYC 2.0, Tatkal Bookings, and Banking

August 1, 2026, comes with a number of major developments which will impact many Indians ranging from tax payers, bank users, railway passengers, and LPG users.
These recent developments include the closing of the Income Tax Return (ITR) filing process for the year, CKYC 2.0, new Tatkal rules for booking railway tickets, and changes in bank services including bank charges and rewards on using credit cards. The prices for LPG have been revised monthly.
ITR Filing Deadline Has Ended
One of the major changes that have taken place is in the area of income tax filing.
The last date for filing of Income Tax Returns of eligible non-audit taxpayers including the taxpayers filing the Income Tax Returns under ITR-1 and ITR-2 categories has been till July 31, 2026. From August 1, the non-filing taxpayers can file a belated return of income tax but they might be required to pay late filing charges.
As per the Income Tax laws, taxpayers with annual income more than ₹5 lakh shall pay late filing charge of up to ₹5,000 whereas taxpayers with annual income up to ₹5 lakh shall pay late filing charge of up to ₹1,000.
CKYC 2.0 Begins Rollout
Yet another significant development in this regard is the use of CKYC 2.0 (Central Know Your Customer).
The new process seeks to establish a unique digital KYC profile for customers. After performing the KYC procedure and gaining the digital consent of the client, financial institutions can access the verified data of the customer from the central registry without having to go through the process again.
The idea behind this is to make the process easy and efficient while reducing frauds.
Tatkal Ticket Booking Rules Have Changed
A novel token system has been launched by Indian Railways for Tatkal ticket bookings at reservation counters in some railway zones.
In the earlier system, people used to have to wait in different queues for getting the token and then go for Tatkal booking of tickets. Now, in the improved system, distribution of tokens has been made synchronized with the time of Tatkal bookings, thus ensuring that crowd management becomes easy and smooth.
Currently, this improved system is being followed in West Central Railway.
Banking and Credit Card Rules May Change
Several banks are revising or are going to revise their credit card policy as of August 1.
According to the banks, there could be changes in reward points, annual fees, late payment fees, processing fees, and other service fees. Since these policies are going to vary from one bank to another, it would be best for the customers to check the notifications released by their respective banks.
Some financial institutions may also consider revising their fixed deposit interest rate and loan schemes in the upcoming days as the RBI’s Monetary Policy Committee is scheduled to meet early next month.
LPG Cylinder Prices Revised
As is traditional in the first day of each month, LPG cylinder prices have been revised by the oil marketing companies.
Changes in prices of commercial LPG cylinders have taken place in many cities, while prices of domestic LPG cylinders will depend upon the government policy and market situation in that particular area. It would be better for consumers to be aware of the new rates applicable in their city.
Relevance of These Changes
While all these changes might be in different fields, they are bound to have an impact on our daily lives in some way or the other.
Those tax payers who failed to file their ITRs on time will have to pay extra fees. The bank customers may have to face new rules in terms of service charge and credit cards. While CKYC 2.0 is set to make the KYC procedure easy, those booking Tatkal train tickets will get better reservation facilities.
