After indirect remarks, the two ministers are now out in the open after the NCP leader accused Fadnavis of allowing a fake currency racket to continue and in fact, grow in Maharashtra after the first time demonetization was announced in 2016. To those unknown, the 2016 demonetization led to the banning of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes.
As Fadnavis was the chief minister during the announcement of demonetization, Malik blamed the corrupt situation on him saying that it happened under his shielding. This accusation came after Tuesday’s remark of Fadnavis where he stressed that the NCP leader was buying properties from two and one of them had links in the underworld.
The other person from whom the leaders seemed to have dealt with in real estate was a connection in the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts that killed 257 people. However, Malik quickly refuted the claims saying that the property deals were above the board. “But Fadnavis helped sweep the case under the carpet. The seized amount was later shown with a value of ₹8.8 lakh,” Malik claimed.
After these comments, the Maharashtra CM did not directly respond to the accusations but indirectly continued the fight while quoting a British author George Bernard Shaw. “I learned long ago, Never to wrestle with a pig, You get dirty. And Besides, The pig likes it,” he stated.
Nawab Malik’s son-in-law Sameer Khan, who has also been involved drug scandal earlier, filed a defamation of Rs 5 crore alleging him of “mental torture, agony, and financial loss.” He stated that the former chief minister has been making false allegations against their family.
In the defamation statement, Malik said that the allegations made by Fadnavis were baseless and did not have any truth to it. He also added that the charges leveled by the Narcotics Control Bureau does not support any allegation by the minister. Khan was arrested earlier this year on charges of dealing with commercial quantities of the drug. He was only granted bail on September 27 after submitting some of the proof of countering the charges, however, the case still goes on.
