A Multi-Storey Building Has Collapsed in Mohali, Punjab

In Punjab’s Mohali district, a six-story structure building collapsed on Saturday and reportedly trapped a number of people beneath the debris. The incident happened in Mohali’s Sohana.
So far two people has been trapped and died, additionally one person has been recovered and sent to the hospital while rescue efforts are still ongoing. NDRF, police and fire department teams are at the spot of the incident.
The reason behind this collapse will be investigated, said the Senior Superintendent of Police Deepak Pareek of Mohali. Two building owners arrested on a charge of culpable homicide.
The building had a gym in the basement and the ground floor, PG accommodation on the two upper floors, said the police, adding that digging work was being carried out by the building owners on the adjoining plot for construction when the structure collapsed around 4.30 pm on Saturday.
Municipal Corporation officials said no prior permission had been taken for the digging work by the building owners.
“Operation is underway. We have no such estimate as to how many people are trapped there. NDRF, police and fire department teams are at the spot. The reason behind this mishap will be investigated,” he stated.
According to a local resident, the building collapsed with a loud noise. The reason behind the collapse can be anything and can’t be confirmed until further investigation.
