A famous character of Friends ‘Gunther’ revealed to be battling prostate cancer
James Micheal Tyler, who is famous for his portrayal of Gunther in the super hit show Friends, has been battling prostate cancer since 2018. Tyler is known for his portrayal of being obsessed with Jennifer Aniston’s character Rachel Green.
The actor revealed that he has been battling this dangerous disease since 2018 and is unable to walk as he confirmed to a chair at all times. This is the reason why the actor was absent from physically being present at the Friends reunion that recently saw all the six leading characters come together to share new stories.
He joined the cast via a video call and shared all about his experience working with the cast members. In an interview with one of the entertainment sites, the actor said, “I was diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer, which had spread to my bones. I’ve been dealing with that diagnosis for almost the past three years.”

He also added that the cancer is in the last stage and shared that because of the severity, it might actually get to him. Because of the ongoing treatment, he could physically be a part of the reunion and about his absence, Tyler said that he initially wanted to be part of the whole thing.
Tyler shared that it was originally planned with him being on the stage with all six of them and he also wanted to experience the festivities first hand but he couldn’t. It was a bittersweet experience, he added.
The producers of the show as well the cast are well aware of his health conditions and David Schwimmer even reached out to him but he does not want to be on the face of everybody saying that Gunther has cancer and gain sympathy.
His goal this year was to surpass 59th year comfortably, which he did, and now all that he wishes for is to help someone else get through their life. While concluding the interview, he requested everyone to get routine health check-ups done and be cautious to oneself as it is because of the delay in check-ups that cancer reached the last stage for him.
