Theatres open for 100% occupancy and Sunny Deol has a big role in guaranteeing the decision
There is good news for movie maniacs. Movie theatres have opened for a hundred percent occupancy. But did you know that heavyweight actor Sunny Deol, who turned politician a couple of years ago, has a big role in pushing the call?
If you don’t know about this then don’t worry! You are not the only one. The actor is known to keep a low profile when it comes to his personal, private life. It is only in his movies where he is seen making the loudest noises but as a politician, the actor believes in making it subtle to the core and hence nobody knew that the step taken by the Indian government which was announced two days ago, was taken due to Deol.
As per sources, it was Deol only who led the film fraternity scheduled to meet Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javdekar, and a few others a few days ago. He reportedly requested the team of ministers to allow theatres to function at greater than 50% occupancy and if possible, make it 100%.
A report in the Bollywood Hungama quoted a source saying, “He was joined by Kamal Gianchandani, President, Multiplex Association of India, Sanjeev Bijli, MD PVR and Nitin Tej Ahuja, CEO of The Producers Guild of India.”
The film industry representatives along with Sunny Deo explained the problem that the producers are facing due to hald theatre occupancies. The people stressed on the fact that producers fear releasing their movies in theatres that are only half filled because it will suffer huge losses, which eventually the producers have to bear.
They also said that now since most of the things have been opened and are normalised ranging from dining to social gatherings, opening theatres to full occupancy should not be much of a problem for the government and will in turn encourage the audience to watch movies in the movie theatres boosting the movie business.
It is also said that the ministers were kind enough to listen to the complete argument and also assured the film fraternity that necessary action with respect to this very issue will be taken.
“At the end of the day, the whole movie business helps everyone in the supply chain. It is only going to help the economy further as the money generated by sales of movie tickets keeps the business going for one and all,” the source concluded.
And now that the decision has been announced, the movie industry cannot be more elated. One of the first ones to thank the government was Kamal Gianchandani, President of the Multiplex Association of India. He thanked Sunny Deol saying that he has shown great leadership and commitment in taking the best interest of the movie industry as his priority.
