Earth day is celebrated on every year since 1970 and this year marks the 50th Earth day celebrated in a row.
First Earth day on April 22, 1970
Firstly, Earth day on April 22,1970 was emerged from a movement of Americans reacting to oil spills into water bodies that even caused fire in river. About 20 million Americans;10% of the United States population at 1970s got themselves in streets,roads, universities to protest against the ignoring of environmental crisis.
20 million Americans on streets to fight for environment made United States Government to regulate few laws in a way of responding to the protest. Clean Air,Clean Water and Endangered Species Acts and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) were the result of this civic movement. This incident was termed as the largest civic movement took place on Earth: for the earth and every other countires across the earth adopted to the idea and started to celebrate April 22 as ‘Earth Day’ unanimously.

How is Earth day celebrated?
Earth Day is celebrated and marked as an event to show our gratitude towards the planet we live. In accordance to make their participation in Earth day, people used to switch off non-essential lights on April 22 from 8:30pm to 9:30pm. As we all know that every nation across the earth is under lockdown due to corona pandemic, people are celebrating this ‘Earth day’ by staying at home this year and marked this event with hashtag #EarthDayAtHome in Internet.
Climate action is the base theme for this 2020’s Earth day.
