Win, Draw or Lose: Can India Still Make it to the WTC Final 2025?
The recent draw at the Gabba makes the Indian cricket team’s journey to the 2025 World Test Championship Final still possible. Ranking third on the WTC table, the most straightforward route to qualification for the Indian team lies in winning the remaining two Test matches in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series that would take their percentage points to 60.53.
The qualification scenario becomes more complicated if India does not win both the games. The series win to 2-1, confidence needs help from either Sri Lanka against Australia or Pakistan against South Africa. If it comes to 2-2, then, it depends on how bad Australia has played against Sri Lanka or how bad South Africa has played against Pakistan. The scenario becomes complicated in the series if it draws 1-1 and India placed at 53.51% and looking forward to several outcomes of the games of other teams.
But a series loss (1-2) would virtually knock India out of reckoning for the final at Lord’s. Given eight matches left for the conclusion of the current WTC cycle, four teams have possibilities to make the final while one team still has a shot of chances of a very thin one. The chance is still going around because there is no team that had booked its place in the final two and every match from now on will be decisive in a sense as to who will fight it out in the final match at the Lord’s Cricket Ground.
