Why are farmers continuing to spend nights outside Karnal mini secretariat?
On Wednesday, Farmers continued their protest outside the gates of the Karnal mini secretariat as they stayed firm on their demand over a police lathi charge on a gathering of farmers on August 28.
The farm protesters’ are unhappy with the transfer of IAS official Ayush Sinha, the former sub-divisional magistrate of Karnal. Farmers are demanding an inquiry on the matter and suspension of Sinha as he was caught on tape purportedly telling cops managing the farmers protest to “break their heads“.
The Chief Minister, Manohar Lal Khattar, also admitted that the selection of words by Ayush Sinha was inappropriate; however, he defended the police role.
In the clash with the police, around ten protesters were injured. They had attempted to walk towards the venue where the BJP meeting was taking place. Their chiefs likewise claimed that one of their farmers got killed during the clash with the police.
Haryana Bharatiya Kisan Union chief Gurnam Singh Chaduni told columnists, “We are not going anyplace from here until our requests are met.” “Transferring him isn’t a punishment when farmers are arrested for even blocking streets; why there can’t be any action against officers who order to break heads. Since Monday, the security and central forces had been expanded here, a day before mahapanchayat. Prohibitory orders under Section 144 restricting the social gathering of individuals have been forced in the area.
