Who is Nupur Sharma ?
Nupur Sharma, an advocate by profession and the official spokesperson for the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) in Delhi, ran in the 2015 Delhi Assembly election from the high-profile New Delhi constituency against Arvind Kejriwal, the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) chief ministerial candidate. Sharma was defeated by over 31,000 votes.
She was born on April 23, 1985, and graduated from Hindu College of Delhi University with a bachelor’s degree in economics (DU). She later earned her LLB from DU and a master’s degree in law from the London School of Economics.
Why is she trending in India?
During a Times Now debate about the disputed Gyanvapi construction, Nupur Sharma said that if people are criticizing Hinduism, they may also criticize other religions, referring to Islamic beliefs. Alt News co-founder Mohammed Zubair shared the video with his 4,64,000 Twitter followers out of context, characterizing Nupur as a fanatical communal hatemonger capable of inciting bloodshed.
Nupur tweeted about the threats, “@DelhiPolice@CPDelhi I am getting continuous death and beheading threats against my family and myself which are egged on by @zoo_bear because of his attempts to incite communal passions and vitiate the atmosphere by building a fake narrative. Attaching a few pics. Please note.”

Nupur makes blatant threats to her life in her tweets. Despite the fact that she has only posted four tweets, she has received a torrent of identical tweets since Zubair’s dog-whistling support for her attacks.
Troll accounts flooded Nupur Sharma’s timeline with threats of all kinds, including threats to behead her, indicating that the dog-whistling strategy worked perfectly. The police should take these threats seriously, especially in light of recent instances such as Kamlesh Tiwari and Kishan Bharwad.

After being tagged multiple times, Delhi Police finally responded, claiming that the case had been forwarded to the proper authorities and that they will contact the unhappy party, Nupur Sharma, as soon as possible.
This isn’t the first time the founders of Alt News have received death threats as a result of their dog-whistling. A juvenile boy was tormented and frightened after being doxxed by another Alt News co-founder, Pratik Sinha. Zubair was detained by Delhi Police earlier this month on suspicion of doxxing a minor.
