What is the Pink Scam on WhatsApp?
A link to download “Pink WhatsApp” is being shared via a viral message that is going around on WhatsApp. Fraudsters are actively passing along this link to a number of users, luring them in with the promise of a new WhatsApp design and extra features. They are urging people to click on a malicious link in order to download the app. The app will behave dangerously once it has been downloaded.
Another unsettling feature is that, without even letting you know, the WhatsApp Pink app will automatically send a message to all of your contacts to download it. This indicates that users are likely to download it because they are getting it from reliable friends. How does it work? The fake WhatsApp scam app aims to steal users’ sensitive data, including their bank account information, contacts, and OTP.
In order to gain full access to the victim’s smartphone, hackers can also install spyware on the victim’s device.
