World Championship 2022: India’s star female wrestler Vinesh Phogat has created history in the World Wrestling Championship.
Vinesh became the first Indian woman to win two medals in World Championship history. In the bronze medal match of the 53 kg weight category of the World Wrestling Championships.
She single-handedly defeated Sweden’s Emma Joanna Malmgren and captured the bronze medal.
Vinesh had earlier defeated Kazakhstan’s Nur-Sultan in the bronze medal match at the 2019 World Wrestling Championships.
The World Wrestling Championship is being played in Belgrade, the capital of Serbia. Vinesh was expected to win a gold medal in this competition. However, in the women’s freestyle 53 kg category, she lost 0-7 to Mongolia’s Khullan Batkhuiag in the qualifying round.
Vinesh Phogat Had Won Gold Medal In CWG
Strong performance in the Commonwealth Games Vinesh Phogat gave a strong performance in the recently held Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.
She captured the gold medal based on the Nordic method. Vinesh defeated World Championship bronze medalist Samantha Lee of Canada in the first match.
Vinesh then defeated Nigeria’s Mercy Bolafunoluwa Adekuoroye in the second match and Keshani Madurawalge of Sri Lanka in the third match.
Vinesh Phogat’s Powerful Comeback
A knee injury in the quarter-finals of the 2016 Rio Olympics dashed Vinesh Phogat’s medal hopes. She was knocked out of the final eight at the Tokyo Olympics.
Failure in both these competitions pushed her to quit wrestling. But, she made a strong comeback without getting tired.
