The Badrinath Dham temple in Uttarakhand opened again its doors to pilgrims with the chanting of Vedic Shlokas (hymns).
Before its reopening, 15 quintals of marigolds were used to decorate the temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu.
Thousands of worshippers congregated at the temple to observe the grand opening and to enter the shrine for worship.
The entrances of the Badrinath temple were opened to the strains of the Army Band and the chants of Jai Badri Vishal by the worshippers.
The first group of devotees left Haridwar for the Uttarakhand Char Dham Yatra on Saturday, and the Yatra began on the blessed day of Akshay Tritiya at Yamunotri Dham.
The Badrinath temple is situated in the Garhwal highlands in the Chamoli district close to the Alaknanda river.
Nearly 45 kilometers separate the temple from Joshimath at an altitude of 3,300 meters (10,200 feet). The opening day was chosen according to Hindu Panchang on the prosperous day of Basant Panchami.
This will remain open until mid-November, six months from now. The closing date will be announced the night before Vijaya Dashami or Dussehra.
