The New Milestones Achieved by the India-UAE Bilateral Ties

As per data for the year 2024, India’s third strongest economic trading partner is the UAE with the trade of $83.65 billion. This shows that ‘India-UAE ties are truly in an era of new milestones’. The bilateral relations of both the countries are reinvigorated by the historic visit of the first Indian PM Narendra Modi in 2015 over the past 34 years. Defense, education, fintech, renewable energy, infrastructure and renewable energy are some of the important sectors that contribute to fostering and sharing the cultural exchanges which helps to prepare India for a globalized economy.
“Fintech linkages like Rupay, UPI… are also the first in the domain. The activity and collaborations that we are constantly expanding, be it renewable energy, infrastructure, digital tech, defence or security. They are all path-breaking in their own way” said External Affairs Minister S.Jaishankar during the launch of Symbiosis International University’s Campus in Dubai.

The inauguration of the embassies in both the countries India and the UAE in 1972 and 1973 respectively, because it is one of the important factors to strengthen and share the bilateral values without any barriers.
Bilateral Visits by the President of the UAE in India
- 2016 and 2017 – He visited India as the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi
- September 2023 – He had attended the G20 Leaders’ Summit
- November 2023 – He actively participated in 2nd Virtual Global South Summit
- January 2024 – President Zayed paid his visit in Gujarat and attended the 10th Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit as the Chief Guest
On the occasion of the 76th Republic Day of India, a flag unfurling ceremony would be held at the Embassy of India, Abu Dhabi.

In July 15, 2023 the Ministry of Education of India, IIT Delhi and the Abu Dhabi Department of Education & Knowledge togetherly signed a tripartite MoU for establishing an overseas campus of IIT Delhi in Abu Dhabi including other reputed educational institutions such as Manipal, BITS Pilani and Amity University. Some of the recent milestones achieved by both the countries are the I2U2 initiative which majorly focuses on economic cooperation in key areas like food, security and energy. The UAE became the first country to accept India’s RuPay card that facilitated the flow of financial transactions smoothly for the Indian residents and tourists.
