Rajinikanth is set to launch his political party in January 2021 for welfare of people of Tamil Nadu
Superstar Rajinikanth has finally announced that he will launch his long-awaited political part in January 2021, months ahead of assembly elections in the state of Tamil Nadu.
Taking to Twitter on Thursday, the Tamil superstar released a brief statement declaring that his party would be “non-corrupt, honest, transparent and secular with spiritual politics.” He further stated that his party’s launch date will be revealed on December 31, professing confidence in its victory in the next elections in Tamil Nadu.
“A wonder and miracle will definitely happen,” Rajinikanth tweeted.
Speaking to reporters outside his residence the same day, the 69-year-old actor stated that he is ready to “sacrifice his life for the sake of Tamil people. It is now or never.”
At the same time, Rajinikanth has inducted Ra Arjunamurthy, former chief of BJP’s intellectual wing in Tamil Nadu, as his party’s chief coordinator and Gandhi Makkal Iyakkam leader Tamilaruvi Manian as the supervisor to launch his party next year. Significantly, Tamilaruvi Manian is a known face in Tamil Nadu politics.
This development has come days after his meeting with senior office bearers of his forum – Rajini Makkal Mandram.
Earlier in October, Rajinikanth had posted on social media that he was in two minds about his political career, citing his health.
While it is anticipated that Rajinikanth’s participation in the state elections will impact the AIADMK-BJP alliance, Tamil Nadu Deputy CM and AIADMK Coordinator O Panneerselvam welcomed the superstar’s decision to launch his political party. Speaking to the media, BJP spokesperson Narayanan Thirupathi also welcomed Rajinikanth’s political plunge, appealing the actor to support his party.
Rajinikanth has also announced that a majority of his party’s candidates for the upcoming polls in the state will be in the age group 45-50, while other seats will go to IAS officers, judges and professionals.
Earlier in March 2020, the actor had maintained that he would not contest the polls or be a Chief Minister candidate. It was in 2017 when the actor-turned-politician spoke about his keenness to enter politics with the aim of bringing change in Tami Nadu. Since then, His fans have been waiting for the superstar to actively join politics.
Over the past few years, Rajinikanth has been denying any political leaning. However, he has been continuously meeting top BJP leaders.
Meanwhile, the AIADMK has also announced to continue its alliance with BJP for next year’s assembly elections even as the party lost critically in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls. The AIADMK-BJP alliance is eyeing a third consecutive term in Tamil Nadu.
