It is to be noted that the streaming giant only counts a view when anyone watching the episode takes it two minutes before the end. The announcement was made on Wednesday when Netflix’s Vice President in Korea, South East Asia, Australia and New Zealand said that the success of the show is ‘beyond our wildest dreams.’
“Today, Squid Game has broken through beyond our wildest dreams,” Minyoung Kim told CNN.
What seemed to have drawn a lot of attention by the viewers was the detailing and the current world situation concerning money. People felt relatable with the characters and loved their acting on the screen.
It is a nine-part series which debuted in September and within the first two days of its release became a hit with the audience. It tells a story about a group consisting of people having different personalities and what all they do to win a series of children’s playground games.
The catch however is if you get caught or lose the game, you will be killed. But what keeps all of them going is the prize money which is 45.6bn Korean won (£28m). The plot has kept people on their toes making them come up with even more engaging theories to support their characters.
The show has become so popular that even Netflix’s rival platform Amazon’s founder Jeff Bezos tweeted about the wave that this show has brought internationally. He credited Netflix for its strategies and also added that it cannot wait to watch the show.
