Republic Day Parade 2022: 73rd Republic Day Today, Many Firsts In Grand Parade
The Republic Day parade at Rajpath in Delhi began at 10:30 am. The cultural diversity was showcased today as the country celebrated its 73rd Republic Day. It featured a grand flypast by 75 Indian Air Force aircraft. It happened for the first time while celebrating Republic Day.
The parade began with four Mi-17 V5 helicopters flying in a ‘Wineglass formation’ over Rajpath. Meanwhile, heralding the parade, General Vijay Kumar Mishra. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also laid a wreath at the National War Memorial. Subsequently, he paid homage to the armed forces personnel who were killed in action.

It also featured cultural performances by 480 dancers, selected through a nationwide Vande Bharatam dance competition. It further featured 16 marching contingents, 17 military bands, and 25 tableaux of various states.
The parade also featured contingents from National Cadet Corps (NCC) Boys Marching contingent, NCC Girls Marching contingent, and National Service Scheme (NSS). It also launched the ‘Shaheedon Ko Shat Shat Naman’ programme by National Cadet for the first time.
Only double-vaccinated adults and single-dose vaccinated children of 15 and above were allowed at the main parade because of the Covid-19 pandemic. President Ram Nath Kovind led the Nation in celebrating Republic Day.
Reportedly, the Ministry of Defence also conceptualised a series of new events for the main parade. The ‘Beating the Retreat’ ceremony at Vijay Chowk will be held on January 29. A drone show by 1,000 indigenously developed drones has been planned for the ‘Beating the Retreat’ ceremony.
The centre decided that the Republic Day celebrations will now be week-long, starting from January 23 to 30 every year. The celebrations will start on January 23, the birth anniversary of great freedom fighter Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose. It will end on January 30, which is observed as Martyrs’ Day.
