Rekha Gupta is Shalimar Bagh’s first-time MLA, who will be the fourth woman to assume the chief ministership of Delhi and the only woman to hold the chief ministership in a BJP-ruled state or Union Territory. Gupta joined the BJP in 2002 after spending almost ten years in the ABVP, which is the student wing of the RSS. Given her stronghold within the political arena, Rekha was also the General Secretary of the Delhi BJP’s Mahila Morcha and served as the National Vice-Chairperson of the BJP Mahila Morcha. The competent politician contested the Delhi Assembly elections from Shalimar Bagh, overwhelming her AAP rival Bandana Kumari with a striking margin of 29,595 votes.
