Rajkummar Rao Gets Bail in Behen Hogi Teri Case: Complete Details of 2017 Controversy

Actor Rajkummar Rao, who plays a Bollywood actor himself, just went to court in Jalandhar to surrender to the controversial 2017 Behen Hogi Teri case. His team of lawyers submitted that the actions of the actor were just an artistic expression, hence granted the actor bail conditions. The incident behind this case is the controversial poster depicting Rajkummar Rao as Lord Shiva, which provoked the anger of some religious groups. The Behen Hogi Teri case is an over 7-year affairs case, and the legal proceedings took their toll this week with the case being finally resolved. The lawyer of the actor made it clear that there was no ill motive to offend religious beliefs, and the movie had obtained appropriate certification by the Central Board of Film Certification.
What is the Behen Hogi Teri Case?
The case of Behen Hogi Teri began in April 2017 when a movie poster gained tremendous outrage on the internet. In this poster, Rajkummar Rao was depicted in the form of Lord Shiva, and he was depicted as sitting casually on a silver motorbike with a UP number plate. The actor has adapted the Shiva traditional costumes with long mane, crescent moon on the head, and with rudraksh bracelets, but has been drawn with a bored face and wearing slippers.
A serious FIR was later registered against Rajkummar Rao, co-star Shruti Hassan, and the production team of the movie on a very serious note. The case was filed under Section 295A (inciting religious feelings), Section 120B (criminal conspiracy), and Section 67 of the IT Act.
The complainants contended that the poster of the Behen Hogi Teri case is an offence to the religious feelings of the people, as Lord Shiva has been depicted in an obscene style. This was a serious thing as non-bailable warrants were issued against the actor. The movie, which was directed by Ajay K Pannalal, was to be a heart-thumping comedy, but the scandalous advertisement contents took the movie spotlight.

What Happened Recently in the Behen Hogi Teri Case?
On July 28, 2024, Rajkummar Rao ultimately appeared in the Jalandhar court to look at the unsolved Behen Hogi Teri case. His counsel, Darshan Singh Dayal, clarified that the actor had not attended the court so far, as the summons of the court had been delivered to his address in Delhi, when actually he has his residency in Mumbai. The actor was out of the court when the challan was presented in court, and this created confusion regarding his whereabouts.
In their recent hearing, the law firm of Rajkummar Rao has provided an effective defense against the Behen Hogi Teri case. They pointed out that he was an actor who was only playing a role as Lord Shiva in a Jagran group, which is a general cultural habit done in Northern India. The defence focused on the fact that this was nothing but artistic expression under Article 19(1)(a) of the Indian Constitution.
The condition of admission of bail was partially offered to Rajkummar Rao by the court after hearing his case. His advocate underlined that the movie was certified by the Central Board of Film Certification, meaning that its content had no legal objections. Even more intriguingly, fellow actress Shruti Haasan was a free woman in the Behen Hogi Teri case since the court had ruled her innocent. Director Ajay K Pannalal even presented himself in the court, and a submission was made by him at the same time.
