Pushpa: The Rise becomes the highest-grossing Indian film of 2020-21
The Allu Arjun starrer film Pushpa: The Rise becomes the highest-grossing Indian film of 2020-21. The film has earned Rs 100 crore in Hindi and over Rs 300 crore overall since its release on 17 December 2021.
The film also stars Fahadh Faasil and Rashmika Mandanna in pivotal roles. The film is on its way to probably reach Rs. 335 crores. This has made the Telugu film industry, the most successful one in the Covid-19 pandemic era.
The film beats Spider-man: No Way Home and Sooryavanshi to become the highest-grossing Indian film. Pushpa: The Rise is now out on Amazon Prime Video. It hit OTT streaming services a while back, but it has continued to do business at the box office window.

Reportedly, the year also saw the Telugu film industry’s share in box office revenues rise to 29 per cent, higher than Tamil cinema’s 17 per cent and Hindi cinema’s 27 per cent. The combined contribution of Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam cinema was 59 per cent of the domestic box office revenue in 2020-21.
The top ten highest-grossing movies at the Indian box office during the year 2021 are Pushpa: The Rise – Rs. 325.75 crores, Spider-man: No Way Home – Rs. 256.50 crores, Sooryavanshi – Rs. 231.70 crores, Master – Rs. 209.60 crores, 83 – Rs. 126.50 crores, Vakeel Saab – Rs. 119.10 crores, Akhanda – Rs. 108.90 crores, Annaatthe – Rs. 102.50 crores, Uppena – Rs. 93.30 crores, and Doctor – Rs. 81.60 crores.
The top ten list is dominated by South Indian films. Only two Bollywood films made it into the top ten list in 2021. Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif starrer Sooryavanshi was the only Bollywood film, which managed to collect over Rs 200 crore at the box office. Spider-man: No Way Home grossed over $1.74 billion worldwide.
