PM Modi meets VP Harris, Exchanges Views on Terrorism, Pandemic, and Various Global Issues

India On Friday, India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi met the United State’s VP Kamala Harris and exchanged views on Pakistan’s role in terrorism, the Covid-19 situation in India and the US, vaccination efforts, and global developments Indo-pacific region and issues in Afghanistan. PM Modi arrived in Washington DC to attend the in-person Quad meeting.

PM Modi talked about climate change and how India is pushing to expand sustainable energy and the recently launched National Hydrogen Mission. He additionally stressed the importance of changes in lifestyle to promote environmental sustainability.

 PM Modi and Kamala Harris had an in-person meeting for the first time after being confirmed as the US VP in 2020. The two leaders also examined future coordinated efforts, including information technology and space cooperation, emerging technologies and better association in the healthcare sector.

In a conversation with PM Modi, Harris mentioned the role of Pakistan in terrorism and asserted that she had asked Islamabad to take proper measures, so the problem does not risk India’s and the United States security; PTI reported referring to MEA.

During the press conference, Foreign Secretary Harsh Shringla stated that the bilateral talks were warm and substantive. He said issues like terrorism, climate change, cyber safety, and others were discussed. 

Harris concurred with the Prime Minister’s briefing on the reality of cross-border terrorism, how India had faced casualties for a long time and the need to control and monitor Pakistan’s support for terror groups.

PM Modi praised Kamala Harris’ for her success in the US elections and gave her invitation to India so that Indians could likewise celebrate her achievement. He praised Harris for successfully taking charge as VP in tough times, quickly chiseled successes, and commended the new Biden Administration as well.
