Netflix Launches ‘Netflix Game Controller’ App To Play Games on TV
Netflix has launched a new app called “Netflix Game Controller” on the Apple App Store, allowing users to play games on their TV using their phones or mobile devices.
The app description states that it will be coming soon to Netflix, but there’s no information yet on which games from Netflix’s library will be available for this feature. The move is part of Netflix’s expansion into cloud gaming, which they announced last year.
Last year, Netflix’s Vice President of Gaming, Mike Verdu, mentioned their plans to explore cloud gaming. They also revealed intentions to establish a gaming studio in Southern California, led by Chacko Sonny, a former executive producer from Blizzard Entertainment.
Netflix’s approach to gaming is different from traditional gaming consoles like PlayStation or Xbox. They aim to offer cloud gaming as an additional service to their existing streaming content, allowing users to easily access games on various screens, including TVs.
Leanne Loombe, Netflix’s Vice President of External Games, emphasized their vision to make gaming accessible on any device that supports Netflix.
This aligns with their ongoing efforts to add games to their platform. Netflix plans to release a total of 40 games this year, with some developed in-house and others in collaboration with partners.

While other cloud gaming services like Google Stadia have faced challenges, Netflix believes that their approach of integrating gaming with their streaming service will offer value to their subscribers.
The Netflix Game Controller app is currently available on iOS devices. The streaming platform is aiming to enter into the gaming industry, to diversify their content and attract more users.
