Mission Raniganj Plot: Real-Life Based Story
The movie’s story is based on a true incident. The story is about a senior engineer named Jaswant Gill, whose intelligence saved the lives of 65 people.
The Raniganj coal mine is considered India’s oldest coal mine. It is in West Bengal. The film is based on the accident that happened there on November 13, 1989.
On that day, 232 miners were working in a shift. They were extracting coal from a mine that was 320 feet deep. Around 4 in the morning, a wall collapsed, and fast-flowing water filled the area.
Out of the 232, 161 miners were near the lift, so they were immediately rescued. However, 71 miners were further away and got trapped due to the water.
There was a telephone there, which gave the information that 65 miners were safe in a shelter near the pit, but 6 people could not be found. Reports say that they lost their lives.
When officials learned that so many miners were trapped, 4 rescue teams were formed. Several methods were being tried to rescue them, but they were not successful.
The water was reducing the oxygen levels, and there was also a danger of the mine collapsing. When no method worked, Jaswant Gill came up with an idea.
He had a steel capsule made, 7 feet and 22 inches in diameter. A new borehole was drilled, and the capsule was lowered into the mine, rescuing one worker at a time.
It took 72 hours to make this capsule. Some trials were conducted. On November 16, at 2:30 in the morning, the rescue operation began.
Jaswant wanted to go into the capsule himself and bring out the people. Initially, he was not allowed, but then he was allowed. Jaswant rescued all 65 workers in 6 hours.
Around 20,000 people had gathered to witness this event. When Jaswant came out, he was welcomed with cheers. If you want to see this whole incident on the screen, you should watch “Mission Raniganj.”
