Manisha, Nikhat Win In Women’s World Boxing Championships
On Sunday, Indian boxers Manisha Moun (57 kg) and Nikhat Zareen (52 kg) won titles at the World Women’s Boxing Championships.
At the World Women’s Boxing Championships at the K.D. Hall in this city on Sunday, 52 kg World Champion Nikhat Zareen defeated top seed Roumaysa Boualam of Algeria in a contested 50kg second-round match.
Following Nikhat’s 5-0 victory over Rumaysa, the champion of the African and Mediterranean Games, Manisha Moun (57 kg) got things going well by posting a comprehensive 5-0 victory over Commonwealth Games bronze medalist Tina Rahimi, making it a fantastic day for the scanty home fans swarming the stadium.
In the opening round of their first-ever encounter, which saw the two throwing punches, Nikhat, who started off conservatively, struck the mark to defeat her aggressive opponent.
Roumaysa persisted in attacking, giving up a caution point as well, but Nikhat skillfully executed her counterattack to win the second round with a slim margin.
In the third round, Nikhat kept a safe distance and proceeded to score punishing blows to earn a pre-quarterfinal meeting with Mexico’s Fatima Herrera Alvarez in a rematch of their Round of 32 encounter from the previous year.
She (Roumaysa) is a fighter, and when an opponent is close by, she becomes aggressive. Nikhat declared, “I wanted to box from a distance.
Manisha, a bronze medallist of the previous matches displayed her lovely ring craft and movement to control the bout and gain ground through her gameplay.
A good mixture of jabs and combinations helped Manisha sail smoothly to the last 16, where she would face Turkey’s Elifnur Turhan.
