Maharashtra Assembly To Decide Fate Of Shiv Sena MLAs Today
The Maharashtra Assembly is going to announce their decision today on whether some members of the Shiv Sena party should be disqualified, which means they might lose their positions as MLAs (Members of the Legislative Assembly).
This issue is between two groups of the Shiv Sena party. One group of ‘Shiva Sena-BJP’ is led by the current Maharashtra Chief Minister, Eknath Shinde. While another group ‘Shiv Sena-UBT’ is led by Uddhav Thackeray. Both sides are accusing each other and want the other group’s members to be disqualified.
Shiv Sena leader Sunil Prabhu has criticized a meeting between Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Speaker Narwekar, which was deemed “highly improper” just three days before the disqualification petitions were filed against him.
Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis expressed confidence in the stability of the Shiv Sena-BJP government, stating that the alliance is “legal” and hopes the speaker’s ruling will give justice to them. CM Shinde also remained confident in the Shiv Sena’s leadership.
The Supreme Court has also been involved. They gave more time for this decision and said it’s important to follow the Constitution properly. They also want another decision by the end of January about some members of the NCP (Nationalist Congress Party), which is another political party.
This whole situation started when a part of the Shiv Sena split and joined with the BJP, leading to the fall of the Maharashtra government led by Uddhav Thackeray. Since then, there’s been a lot of tension and disagreement in Maharashtra politics.
