London Heathrow Airport Closed Due to Substation Fire and Power Failure — Flights Cancelled

Heathrow Airport London is known as one of the busiest airports in the world. Today this airport has shut down for at least 24 hours after a massive fire broke out at a nearby electrical substation. Because of this fire power outage happened which is affecting the entire airport and surrounding areas of the airport.
According to the recent news all flights have been canceled. Passengers who have any scheduled flights are advised to contact their airlines for latest updates. Do not rush for the airport.
According to the new source, on Thrusday the fire started around 11:30 PM near Hayes, which is about 3 kilometers north of Heathrow. Firefighters rushed to the scene with 10 fire engines to control the blaze. By early Friday morning, airport authorities announced the shutdown, saying safety is their top priority.
“Due to a fire at an electrical substation supplying the airport, Heathrow is experiencing a significant power outage. To maintain the safety of our passengers and staff, Heathrow will be closed until 11:59 PM on March 21,” the airport said in a statement. “We apologize for the inconvenience.”
When the Heathrow Airport resume?
There is no official update about the restart of airport activities. According to BBC a spokesperson said there is no clear timeline for when operations will resume.
According to the London Fire Brigade they are continuing their efforts to minimize the disruption. The situation has created disturbance for travelers. Flight tracking website Flightradar24 reported that at least 120 flights already in the air and heading to Heathrow had to be diverted.

Flights from India have also been hit. Air India confirmed that its Mumbai-London flight had to return to Mumbai, while the Delhi-London flight was diverted to Frankfurt, Germany. All Air India flights to and from Heathrow for March 21 have been canceled. However, flights to London Gatwick remain unaffected.
