Kevin Pietersen named mentor for Delhi Capitals, the new season

While coaching big stars like David Warner, Anil Kumble, and Matthew Hayden, Pietersen has appreciated that unofficially, giving time as a mentor to the national team. The announcement was made through all social media channels on February 27, marking a return to the team by one of the most famous faces in its former player roster.
Pietersen’s First Coaching Role in the IPL
The timings for Pietersen’s presence in IPL as a mentor will coincide with his becoming the first-ever mentor in the IPL. The 44-year-old, who last played in this tournament in 2016, will now work with:

History of Pietersen in the IPL
Pietersen played in the IPL between 2009 and 2016 for three different teams and even represented Delhi (then called Delhi Daredevils). He captained Delhi in 2014, but it shall not be remembered as a very good year since he won only 2 out of 14 matches. Before that, he also led Royal Challengers Bengaluru briefly in 2009.
He has even played in all other top T20 leagues apart from IPL, like Big Bash League, Pakistan Super League, and Caribbean Premier League. In all, in his T20 career, he aggregated 5,695 runs in 200 matches with an average of 33.89 and a strike rate that is close to 137.

A Sturdy Association with Delhi Capitals
Pietersen has an established association with Kiran Kumar Grandhi, who is the Chairman of GMR, the co-owner of Delhi Capitals
. He brokered a big deal in 2023 with the cricket club Hampshire County Cricket Club for GMR. Last year, Pietersen and Grandhi went to attend an England T20 match against Australia.
