India Wins 202 Medals At Special Olympic World Games In Berlin
India’s incredible athletes have won 202 medals at the Berlin’s Special Olympics event. PM Modi, Gautam Gambhir congratulated them for their performance.
India celebrated the outstanding performance of its special athletes at the Special Olympics World Summer Games 2023 in Berlin.
A welcome ceremony was organized by Special Olympics Bharat at the JN Stadium in New Delhi to honor the athletes and felicitate them for their remarkable achievements.
The Indian contingent returned with an impressive medal tally of 202, including 76 gold, 75 silver, and 51 bronze medals.
Former Indian President, Shri Ram Nath Kovind, graced the occasion as the chief guest, accompanied by esteemed guests including Shri Sarbananda Sonowal, Minister of Ports, Waterways & Shipping, and Minister of AYUSH.
Members of Parliament, Gautam Gambhir and Manoj Tiwari, as well as Shri Ramvir Singh Bidhuri, Leader of Opposition, Legislative Assembly, Delhi, were also present at the event.
Shri Ram Nath Kovind expressed his elation over the athletes’ success and highlighted the fact that out of the 202 medals won, 89 were won by female athletes.
He praised their talent, determination, and the image they portrayed of a happy India. He encouraged the athletes to remember that their journey doesn’t end there and to continue striving for more achievements.
Former cricketer Gautam Gambhir also congratulated the medal-winning athletes and acknowledged the effort and dedication put in by all participants.
He advocated for removing phrases like “Special Olympics” or “Paralympics” and promoting equal recognition for athletes across all sports. He also emphasized the need for India to become a true sporting nation that celebrates and supports all sports and athletes.
The Special Olympics World Summer Games 2023 took place in Berlin from June 17-25. The Indian contingent excelled in various sports such as basketball, volleyball, handball, roller skating, and track and field events.
The event garnered immense attention from millions of viewers who cheered for the athletes both at the stadium and from their homes while watching the games on television.
India’s impressive 202 medal victory and the athletes’ memorable performances at the Special Olympics World Summer Games 2023 in Berlin have created pride and recognition to the nation.
