India vs West Indies 2023: Indian Captain Sets The Team And Strategies
Ahead of the two-Test series against West Indies, India’s vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane praised team captain Rohit Sharma, stating that he gives a lot of freedom to players and possesses the qualities of a great leader.
Rahane, who made a comeback to red-ball cricket after 18 months, expressed his happiness at being back in the team and as the vice-captain.
He mentioned that Rohit’s leadership style provides freedom to players and highlighted the importance of this trait.
India will take on West Indies in a multi-format series, beginning with the first Test in Dominica on July 12. The series follows India’s loss to Australia in the World Test Championship final.
Rahane commented about the upcoming matches, stating that it provides opportunities for players to prove themselves, especially in the absence of Cheteshwar Pujara and the resting of senior pacer Mohammed Shami.
He expressed confidence in the replacements who will step up and contribute positively to the team.
Regarding his own comeback, Rahane dismissed questions about age, asserting that he is still young and has a lot of cricket left in him.
He attributed his return to the national team to his good form in the IPL and Ranji season, as well as his efforts to improve his fitness.
Rahane mentioned that his role in the IPL with Chennai Super Kings (CSK) allowed him the freedom to play his natural game, which boosted his confidence.
