India is on Alert: Following Bengaluru, Gujarat State Government announces the new HMPV case recorded
The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare of India has officially released the update on the two HMPV (Human Metapneumovirus) positive cases which were found in the two infants. They state that these two cases have been found positive after the routine surveillance for multiple respiratory viral pathogens. It is a part of ongoing process to identify the respiratory illness throughout the country by ICMR.
They have also revealed the details of the two positive HMPV cases which are as follows,
“A 3 month old female infant, who was diagnosed with HMPV after being admitted to Baptist Hospital, Bengaluru with a history of bronchopneumonia.
An 8 month old male infant, who tested positive for HMPV on January 3, 2025 after being admitted to Baptist Hospital… with a history of bronchopneumonia”
“India is well-equipped to handle any potential increase in respiratory illnesses and public health interventions can be deployed promptly if needed” added the statement of Ministry of Health and Family Welfare of India.
The recent update states that a new case has been registered in Gujarat accos=ding to the reports given by Gujarat Samachar and it included the baby’s condition which is recorded as ‘stable & there is no immediate cause for major concern’. So far in India only three HMPV cases are recorded and that too infants below the age of a year.
Both the State and Central government has instructed the public to observe the preventive measures effectively.
