india after 5g 6g technology announcement to be made available by the end of 2023
India is currently looking to develop an indigenously developed 6G technology where the aim is to launch it by either the end of 2023 or by early 2024. The information was confirmed by the Minister for Communication Ashwini Vaishnav.
“6G development has already started. That will be seen somewhere in the time frame 2024 or 2023-end. That is the direction in which we are going,” he said. He talked about the upcoming technology while talking on ‘New Technology and the Green Economy: Two Trends Shaping a New India?’ in a webinar.
With the announcement of 6G, the minister also assured that 5G technology is also being indigenously developed and retrieved from a core software which will be completed by the third quarter of next year. The auctions for the 5G spectrum will reportedly start in the second quarter of the calendar year 2022.
He also added that for the purpose of the auction, the TRAI (Telecom Regulatory Authority of India) has already made a reference and the consultation process also started. The whole thing will take some time to complete and it may extend till February-March in the coming.
To cater to the telecom needs of the country, the Indian government has already approved a set of nine structural and procedural reforms earlier this year where the short term will be addressed along with long term concerns faced by the telecom companies. “The reforms that the government approved in September have been very well received,” he added further. Since the announcement, the telecom industry is trying to adapt to these changes. The minister stressed that due to these reforms, many of the issues that the sector was dealing with have been solved.
