IMD Warns of Very Dense Fog Across North India for Four Days, Travel Disruptions Likely

India Meteorological Deposition (IMD) has already issued another weather warning predicting dense to very dense fog in most parts of North India within the next four days. According to the Weekly Weather Forecast for India, The dense fog forecast provided by the IMD indicates that there are severe visibility issues that may create inconveniences to daily life, more so transportation services. The worst conditions would be experienced in states like Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Chandigarh during the early morning hours and night. Cold wave conditions are also reported in some of the regions together with the fog, which are more dangerous in terms of health and safety. The government has encouraged people to be extra careful and think over traveling.
IMD Dense Fog Forecast: Regions Under Alert
The IMD dense fog forecast shows that the dense fog is highly probable to continue around Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh comparing the period between January 5 and January 7, 2026. The visibility might reduce considerably in these regions especially at night and early morning. Thick fogs are also anticipated in the regions of Bihar, Odisha, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and some of North East India, which may also increase the radius of influence.
Cold Wave Conditions Add to Weather Woes
Besides the IMD heavy rain forecast, cold wave in secluded areas is forecasted in Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Punjab, and Himachal Pradesh. The use of low temperatures and fog can make the situation even more uncomfortable and make people even more susceptible to health problems, children, elderly people, and those with breathing problems in particular.
Travel Disruptions Likely Across Transport Networks

Driving Safety Tips During Dense Fog
Drivers are encouraged to drive at a slower pace and keep safe distance between each other. Instead of high beam headlights, they should use low-beam headlights or fog lights due to low visibility in fog. Drivers are advised to avoid act of using hazard lights during movement, remain in lane markings, close windows with defoggers, and reduce distractions in order to have more hearing capacity to the surrounding traffic.
Health Precautions During Foggy Conditions
The dense fog forecast of IMD also focuses on health safety. Individuals are advised to reduce their outdoor time and more so when the quality of air is poor. The use of N95 or N99 masks may filter the pollutants. It is important to keep warm and remain hydrated because after a long period of being in cold, it can cause severe health problems.
