What Is Groww Foundation’s INV.ENT Cohort? Grants, Eligibility and Benefits Explained

The INV.ENT Cohort of Groww Foundation is an early stage innovation program designed to promote entrepreneurship among IIT Bombay students and faculty members.

Instead of waiting until their concepts are transformed into startups, the program focuses on supporting the innovators when they are at the proof of concept stage when funding and mentorship can be hard to access.

The first group consists of innovations in the fields of climate technology, health, robotics, defense, artificial intelligence, assistive technologies, agritech, education, retail, gaming, and design. Some of the selected innovations include an artificial intelligence-based counter drone system, physiotherapy guidance sleeve, carbon dioxide to protein conversion technology, and a marketplace for pottery artists of Dharavi.

How Does the Programme Work?

This project is implemented through two different funding streams based on the level of maturity of the innovation.

Firstly, there is the Proof of Concept (PoC) Support Track that assists students in validating their idea, conducting market research, testing hypotheses, and developing early-stage prototypes.

Secondly, there is the Grand Challenge Fellowship that supports teams developing innovative solutions at a more advanced stage with the ability to become scalable businesses.

What Grants Are Being Offered?

Financial support is one of the biggest advantages of the programme.

For the first batch of the programme, three teams of students have been chosen as Grand Challenge Fellows, which entitles them to milestone-based financial assistance of up to ₹25 lakh per year.

The rest of the sixteen teams have enrolled in the PoC Support Track, where each team gets a catalytic financial aid of ₹30,000 to start validating their ideas.

The financial assistance is milestone-based rather than one-time financial assistance.

Who Is Eligible?

INV.ENT program is based out of IIT Bombay and is open to both undergraduate and graduate students along with researchers who belong to the institute.

As per the structure of the program, the participants from various academic disciplines are eligible for the same, as the program is based on innovation across disciplines rather than just engineering. 

The objective of the program is to support about 100 teams of students each year.

Beyond Grants: What Other Benefits Do Participants Receive?

The programme does not stop at providing monetary assistance. The selected teams will be mentored by faculty members in a formal mentoring program, and have access to industry experts and alumni advisors who can help them polish both the technical and commercial viability of their concept.

Moreover, participants get access to the newly opened Groww Innovation Space in a 15,000 sq ft space within the Desai Sethi School of Entrepreneurship at IIT Bombay.

The aim is to provide an environment where they can test, validate and eventually build investment-ready startups.

Why Is the Programme Significant?

One of the major issues that student innovators have to face is the issue between having an innovative idea and getting sufficient support to construct an effective prototype.

INV.ENT Cohort of The Groww Foundation tries to overcome this issue by giving money to the innovators in an early phase compared to many typical startup programs.

As per the Groww Foundation, the program is aimed at becoming a launchpad for youth innovators before approaching investors or incubators by giving them trust, mentoring, infrastructure, and finances.

A Four-Year Innovation Initiative

The program is a component of a four-year CSR-funded alliance from FY 2025-26 to FY 2028-29, with a total budget allocation of ₹23.63 crore.

Apart from the grants, this alliance also intends to build an ecosystem of innovation at IIT Bombay by creating infrastructure, entrepreneurial activities, and proof of concept funding for research.
