German Open 2022: Sindhu, Srikanth and Lakshya lead India’s campaign at German Open
Two-time Olympic medallist P V Sindhu and world championship medal-winners Kidambi Srikanth and Lakshya Sen are the top Indian contenders at the German Open Super 300 badminton tournament.
The tournament is starting on Tuesday in Muelheim an der Ruhr in Germany. The tournament will end on 13 March. It is an annual Badminton tournament held in Germany since 1955.
Lakshya Sen grabbed his maiden Super 500 trophy at the Indian Open in January. Sen was the only bright spot during India’s campaign at Asia Team Championships in Malaysia in January. He will start his campaign against Thailand’s Kantaphon Wangcharoen at the German Open Super 300 badminton tournament.
P V Sindhu won the Syed Modi India International badminton title in January. However, Srikanth saw the momentum of the World Championships cracking out a bit after withdrawing from Delhi due to the Covid-19 infection. Srikanth withdrew from the India Open tournament after he tested positive for the Covid-19.

Reportedly, the Lucknow title was Sindhu’s first since the World Championship gold in 2019. Sindhu will open her campaign against Thailand’s world no 11 Busanan Ongbamrungphan this week at the German Open Super 300 badminton tournament. She has a 14-1 record against the Thai shuttler.
London Olympics bronze-medallist Saina Nehwal will also play at the tournament. She will open against Spain’s Clara Azurmendi. Reportedly, she could meet rising star An Seyoung in the second round.
Reportedly, former commonwealth games champion Parupalli Kashyap will also play at the tournament. Kashyap will open against Thailand’s young sensation Kunlavut Vitidsarn.
Commonwealth Games silver-medallists Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty will open against China’s Liu Yu Chen and Ou Xuan Yi. Dhruv Kapila and MR Arjun will clash with sixth seeds Ong Yew Sin and Teo Ee Yi from Singapore.
