Florida International University Requests TN Govt. For ₹47 Cr
The Florida International University, requested $6 million from the Govt. of Tamil Nadu to launch a Tamil Language & Tamil Studies dept. as financial assistance.
A representative of the university had recently visited India to talk to Tamil Nadu officials and Tamil activists and ask for help.
Florida International University is a government university located in Miami, USA. It is planned to start a research department for Tamil-Diaspora Tamils.
Professor Kalaimadi of the International University of Florida told the Indian media that $6 million (₹46.8 Crore) was needed to run it for five years.
Although he is a professor of biological sciences, he has been instrumental in setting up the Tamil Department and has provided $ 90,000 in funding for the initiative.
In the newly formed Tamil field, it is planned to conduct research in four aspects namely Tamil language literature, Tamil art, Tamils in exile, Vallalar studies and Valluvar studies.
There are plans to enroll students from different countries. Prof. Kalaimathy requested the world Tamil community to make voluntary donations to set up the Tamil Department.
In addition, activities such as promoting Tamil arts, awarding women for outstanding work in Tamil, encouraging research on Tamil and providing scholarships to Tamil research students are to be undertaken. The team, including Kalaimati, is a professor of biology at the University of Florida.
