Financial Fraud Crackdown: Delhi Airport Customs Seizes Ganja Worth Rs 4.5 Crore from Bangkok Passenger

Customs officers at Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi have confiscated suspected ganja worth roughly Rs 4.5 crore from a passenger who arrived from Bangkok, Thailand. The incident underscores the continuous attempts by the Indian authorities to check the smuggling of narcotic drugs through international airports. The passenger has been stopped at the airport while the details regarding the attempted smuggling were being investigated.
Delhi Airport Ganja Seizure: What Happened?
As per the reports, the alleged narcotics have been found during the screening and examination of baggage of a passenger coming from Bangkok. The material seized has been confirmed to be ganja and the approximate value of the substance in the market has been calculated to be Rs 4.5 crore.
The authorities have taken necessary actions as per the Indian custom laws and narcotic laws. The travel itinerary of the passenger, source of the substance and the destination are some of the issues that can be investigated as part of the case.
The confiscation is a part of various measures undertaken by the enforcement agencies against international networks that deal in trafficking of prohibited narcotics using flights.
Why the Bangkok Route Gets Checked for Narcotics?
Bangkok is one of the biggest travel destinations in Southeast Asia as well as India. The customs departments check the travelers and their baggage coming through the international routes for any prohibited goods, undeclared cargo, and narcotics.
A seizure of a specific passenger is an individual case and does not prove that all the travelers coming from the same destination are into any sort of illegal business.
Legal Action Under India’s Narcotics Laws
Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, is the primary legislation providing for the control of prohibited narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances in India. According to the substance involved, quantity and circumstances of evidence, alleged offences may lead to severe punishments.
It is important to determine the nature and quantity of seized substance, passenger’s involvement, and observe necessary legal procedures. The mere estimation of its market value does not prove criminality.
Investigation and Airport Security
The Rs 4.5 crore of ganja seized at Delhi Airport draws attention to the issue of customs surveillance and cooperation between agencies responsible for border security. It will be necessary to find out the source of contraband and to establish its connection with trafficking.
At the same time, this event stresses the importance of international airport inspections for prohibition of illegal substance entry into India. More information regarding the investigation and possible legal proceeding will be known after official conclusion.
