Dabba Cartel: Review, storyline, and cast & crew
Women are a bleak mix of deep emotions and great strength. They can be more than that: caring homemakers, loving wives, and responsible daughters-in-law. Yet, they can also be powerful professionals who fight to be taken seriously- who dare to oppose a system that denies some standing in them. In another world, they might even be advisers to feared gangsters, standing ready to crawl back into the shadows to fight for a fellow woman.
Not Your Run-of-the-Mill Crime Drama
This is not an action-oriented thriller; it is a slow-grinder of a drama deep-rooted in emotion, relationship-building, and power struggles. The writing of Vishnu Menon and Bhavna Kher adds dimensions to every character that is rendered so lovable that you find a reason to root for them, however distasteful their actions have been.
Performances are strong, featuring Shabana Azmi, Shalini Pandey, Sai Tamhankar, and Anjali Anand in commendable roles, but it is Jyotika and Nimisha Sajayan who simply steal the show. Their chemistry particularly sparkles in these moments of unspoken understanding and quiet rebellion.
It is enhanced by the relationship between the background music and the actors. There’s rap with Malayalam lyrics, a remixed Rabindra Sangeet, and an atmospheric but dangerous rainy Thane that sets the mood for the story.
