Controversy Erupts as Former BCCI Selector Criticizes MCA’s Treatment of Prithvi Shaw
Former BCCI selector Jatin Paranjape recently heavily condemned the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) for their treatment of young talented batsman Prithvi Shaw who was recently omitted from the state side for the upcoming Vijay Hazare Trophy. Things got worse when an MCA source told PTI that the association was forced to hide Shaw on the field because of fitness issues and alleged indiscipline which includes staying out late at night and skipping training sessions.
For context to Paranjape’s defense of Shaw, he took to the social media platform X (Twitter) to voice out his displeasure pointing out that this could be Shaw’s last season playing for Mumbai.
The former selector criticized the MCA’s tactic and said that the team may no longer be keen on nurturing the young cricketer. Shaw who came into the Test arena at 18 against West Indies in 2018, made a century on debut but since then has not been able to consistently play for India in the long format, featuring in only four more Tests and occasional white wash matches.
The incident also served as an alert for Shaw losing the stock in Indian cricket bigwigs from being considered the next big thing in Indian cricket to being unsure of his place in domestic cricket. He last represented India in 2021 and is a sad case of a young man who looked likely to be a future star of the Indian cricket team.
