BWF Denmark Open: HS Prannoy & Lakshya Sen Enters To Pre-Quarterfinals
BWF Denmark Open: World Championships bronze medallist Lakshya Sen and H S Prannoy entered the pre-quarterfinals after winning straight-game in men’s singles.
HS Prannoy defeated China’s Zhao Jun Peng who was a World Championships bronze medalist.
Lakshya Sen also defeated Indonesia’s Anthony Ginting with 21-16, 21-12 in round 32 of the Denmark Open.
However, Saina Nehwal, a seasoned player, lost in the opening round of the women’s singles competition at the Denmark Open on Wednesday.
In a first-round match that lasted 39 minutes, the unseeded Sen defeated the sixth-seeded Anthony Sinisuka Ginting of Indonesia 21-16 21-12 to advance to the Super 750 tournament’s pre-quarterfinal match against fellow Indian H S Prannoy.
Sen defeated Ginting three times this year, twice with victories in the German Open in March as well as the Thomas Cup in May.
Prannoy had to work more than Zhao Jun Peng of China to defeat him in 43 minutes, 21-13 to 22-20.
He had previously lost to the same rival twice this year—at the World Championships in August and the Indonesia Open in June.
Saina, who won bronze at the 2012 Olympics in the women’s singles, was eliminated in the first round after falling to Zhang Yi Man of China in a 48-minute match by scores of 17-21, 21-19, and 11-21.
After losing in the Macau Open in February, this was Saina’s second loss against the same opponent this year. With Saina’s elimination, India’s tournament run in women’s singles came to an end.
Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, the seventh-seeded men’s doubles team in the competition, defeated the Korean team of Kang Min Hyuk with Seo Seung Jae 21-15 21-19 in a 44-minute first-round encounter.
In the preliminary round, Muhammad Shohibul Fikri and Maulana Bagas of Indonesia will compete against the Indian team.
In the men’s singles pre-quarterfinal match on Thursday, Kidambi Srikanth will compete against Singapore’s Loh Kean Yew, the seventh seed.
