Although Black Friday sales were traditionally mostly limited to Western markets, the idea has recently acquired popularity in India where companies like Samsung and Sony are actively taking part in the sales.

E-commerce firms are likely to provide shopaholics huge discounts and packaged offers now that the wait is over. The fourth Friday in November is always when the Black Friday sale takes place. The sale is set for November 24th till 29th this year.
The phrase “Black Friday” was first used in the 1960s and 1970s but not in India. Unexpectedly, the police and bus drivers used this phrase to characterise the chaos caused by an increase of consumers before the Thanksgiving holiday.
Philadelphia is where the word first appeared. Department retailers tried to change the name to “Big Friday” but “Black Friday” remained as the name.
Although Black Friday is typically associated with large crowds and in store sales, the COVID-19 lock down has accelerated the trend of Black Friday turning more of online shopping. In the US, the UK and particularly in India, it is still the busiest time of year for shopping.
