BCCI sacks Indian Men’s Batting Coach Abhishek Nayar and Fielding Coach T. Dilip pointing the Team’s loss against Australia – Report

Indian Men’s Cricket Team’s Batting Coach Abhishek Nayar and Fielding Coach T. Dilip is axed by the BCCI. Under the former Indian Cricketer Gautam Gambhir’s leadership, Team India has been functioning from July 2024 with not many interventions from the council. Now BCCI has penultimately sacked two of the supporting staff under Gambhir’s umbrella of coaches, making headlines.
The BCCI reportedly sacked Abhishek Nayar and T. Dilip along with Strength and Conditioning coachSoham Desai as a result of the Men’s team’s underwhelming performance against Australia in the start of 2025. The India tour of Australia ended with 1-3 in the five test match series, while the decision to fire the two coaches came after three months of the match and as a reflection of loss at home against New Zealand.
The loss by the Indian Cricket Team ultimately resulted in India not able to qualify for the World Test Championship Final. As a process of reshuffling the team and curating a different approach for the upcoming England series in June 2025. This revamp, especially during the Indian Premier League (IPL) season comes in handy as coaches from different IPL teams can easily take charge post the league.
Abhishek Nayar’s spot has been tumultuous with talks of changing his position discussed. After Gautam Gambhir’s appointment as Head Coach, he conveniently brought in a pack of support staff from Kolkata Knight Riders’ team, including Nayar, Morne Morkel and Shitanshu Kotak. Kotak immediately took charge of overseeing batting while Nayar was bridging the communication between Rohit Sharma, the skipper and Gambhir.
For the England series ahead, Ryan ten Doeschate will be the assistant coach while Morne Morkel reprising his role as the Bowling Coach and Kotak overlooking the Batsmen. SOuth Africa’s Adrien Le Roux known for assisting the fitness transformation for the Indian team in the 2000s will replace Desai as the Strength and Conditioning Coach, completing his duties with Punjab Kings in the IPL 2025 season.
