Who is Shubhanshu Shukla? Indian Origin Pilot for Axiom 4 Launch

Axiom 4 launch was successfully launched today and signified a successful return to human spaceflight in India after more than four decades. This historic launch of Axiom 4 makes Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla the second Indian citizen to fly to space.
Axiom 4 launch is one of the major events happening in commercial spaceflight, as the crew includes a variety of international astronauts. The mission commander Peggy Whitson is a veteran NASA astronaut leading the team of astronauts together with Shubhanshu Shukla, and Polish, and a Hungarian astronaut. The present multi-national composition of the Axiom 4 launch proves the changing nature of space exploration, with access to the International Space Station through private companies.
The SpaceX Dragon spacecraft, which will be utilized in the launch code-named Axiom 4, will ferry the crew to the ISS, where they will spend a long time in the facility performing various scientific experiments and research work spanning a wide range of fields.

Shubhanshu Shukla’s Journey to Axiom 4 Launch
Shubhanshu Shukla was born in 1985 in Lucknow, and after his commissioning to the fighter wing of the Indian Air Force in 2006, the journey to the Axiom 4 launch began. He has vast experience of being in the aviation field, having logged more than 2,000 flight hours on diverse platforms, including the Su-30 MKI, the Hawk.
The path to the Axiom 4 launch gathered oomph when, in 2019, Shukla was chosen by ISRO to be part of India Gaganyaan, an ambitious spacecraft project. The astronaut was trained at the Yuri Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center in Russia for an entire year to learning space processes and ISS guidelines that certified him to fly to space.
Significance of Axiom 4 Launch Mission
The Axiom 4 launch has an impressive scientific worth, with 50+ research studies that will be conducted during the mission, representing 31 countries of the world. The experiments will be carried out on various subjects such as microgravity research, medical endeavors, and technological demonstration that shall be relevant in future space missions and ground-based applications.
The opportunity to carry out experiments in microgravity conditions developed as part of the ISRO is priceless and can be done through the launch of the Axiom 4. Shubhanshu Shukla will carry out cognitive studies and other research work that will help to build a bigger space science database in India and help the future planning of the Gaganyaan mission.
