AMD Launches RDNA 3 Based Radeon RX 7000 Series Flagship GPUs
AMD RDNA 3 is the world’s first chiplet based gaming GPU. These cards will provide high-resolution gaming at higher frame rates. These have 54% higher performance per watt.
At a press conference today in Las Vegas, AMD unveiled their eagerly awaited Radeon RX 7000 series GPUs. The speech was introduced by Dr. Lisa Su, CEO of AMD, who announced the release of AMD RDNA 3, the most cutting-edge graphics architecture in the world that will provide the future of gaming.
She continued by saying that AMD is concentrating on creating high-performance GPUs for gaming and creativity while focusing on performance per watt leadership.
The major news for AMD is that the newest GPU outperforms the company’s previous-generation flagship GPU by up to 54% in terms of performance per watt.
It is the first gaming GPU in the world to use a chiplet design rather than the more conventional SoC design, and it is based on the brand-new RDNA 3 architecture.
Better power efficiency is made possible by the chiplet design, which is also proven to be economical. The AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX and RX 7900 XT GPUs feature 5nm GCD and 6nm MCD, respectively (Memory Cache Die).
The AMD RDNA 3 GPU has 61 teraflops of computational capabilities, which is a significant increase over the RDNA 2’s 23 teraflops.
Additionally, the RDNA 3 adds a new memory cache chip that leverages AMD’s 2nd Gen Infinity Cache, increasing peak bandwidth in contrast to RDNA 2 based GPUs by 2.7x to 5.3 TB/s.
When compared to the Radeon RX 7900 XT, the AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX has 24GB of GDDR6 memory.
AMD wants to push the boundaries for gamers aiming for high-resolution gaming at high frame rates with new RDNA 3 based flagship GPUs.
For 8K@165Hz and 4K@480Hz gaming, the RDNA 3 GPUs include compatibility for the most recent DisplayPort 2.1 standard, providing 54 GBps of bandwidth.
For popular AAA games running at 4K resolution, according to AMD’s own performance comparison tables, the Radeon RX 7900 XTX outperforms the Radeon RX 6950 XT by up to 1.7 times.
The Nvidia Geforce RTX 4080 and AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX are both vying for the top spot in high-end gaming, so it will be interesting to see how they compare.
Although the AMD Radeon RX 7000 series cards have not yet received an official announcement on their prices and availability in India, one can anticipate that announcement to come after the US release.
