Amazon Prime Video to Introduce Ads in June, New Fee for Ad-Free Viewing

Amazon has said that it will start showing “limited ads” on its Prime Video service starting from June 17, 2025, but will retain current subscription prices.
The company said that this move will facilitate long term investment on quality content. The ad-supported version will automatically come to the members at no extra cost.
For those users who want to watch an ad-free experience, Amazon will offer an “ad-free add-on” option that will cost an extra ₹129 per month and ₹699 per year. This optional upgrade will begin the day that advertisements become live.
Amazon stressed that existing members did not have to do anything right away because the existing subscription prices for them will remain the same. The company also promised its users that the advertisement is going to be “meaningfully fewer” than what viewers are used to on old TV channels and other streaming services.

Other Prime membership advantages such as shopping incentives and savings will not be tampered with after this shift.
Incidentally, it is worth mentioning that available on Amazon MX Player through Prime Video content will still contain ads, be it ads or not purchased by the members for the ad-free upgrade option.
Members who are planning to cancel can contact customer service for a prorated refund or can send them a message to check their next renewal date at their account setting.
