AAP picks Harbhajan Singh, Raghav Chadha, IIT professor, and two others for Rajya Sabha from Punjab
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) won 92 of the 117 Assembly seats in Punjab. Five candidates from the party filed the nominations for the Rajya Sabha from Punjab on Monday.
Among the nominees is former cricketer Harbhajan Singh, senior party leader Raghav Chadha, IIT professor Sandeep Pathak, educationist Ashok Kumar Mittal, and industrialist Sanjeev Arora. They went to the office of Secretary Vidhan Sabha to file their nomination papers today.
Dr Sandeep Pathak
Dr Sandeep Pathak is the AAP’s poll strategist. He designed the poll campaign for Punjab. He is an associate professor at the Indian Institute of Technology-Delhi. He helped the party at the grassroots level and played a crucial role in the 2020 elections of Delhi.
Raghav Chadha
Raghav Chadha, AAP’s Delhi MLA (Member of the Legislative Assembly) from Rajinder Nagar and party’s co-in charge in Punjab, has been praised by Kejriwal for his work. He started to work for the polls in December 2020. At 33, he is set to become the youngest Rajya Sabha MP (Member of Parliament) ever. While filing for nomination, he thanked Arvind Kejriwal and Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.

Educationist Ashok Kumar Mittal, founder and chancellor of Lovely Professional University (LPU), is AAP’s other Rajya Sabha nominee from Punjab.
Sanjeev Arora
Ludhiana-based textile businessman Sanjeev Arora is AAP’s fifth pick for the Rajya Sabha nomination. AAP reportedly said, “His voice as an MP will boost AAP’s Pro-business Politics in the Parliament.”
Five Rajya Sabha seats will be vacant on 9 April and the elections will be held on 31 March.
