4.0 Magnitude Earthquake Shakes Delhi-NCR

At 5:36 AM on Monday Delhi and its vicinities faced a substantial seismic shake from a 4.0 magnitude earthquake near Durgabai Deshmukh College of Special Education in Dhaula Kuan. The earthquake shook Delhi and its area at 5:36 AM with shallow tremors at a 5 km depth. This wave produced a loud rumbling sound that panicked residents who escaped early morning.
The director of the National Centre for Seismology Dr. OP Mishra told citizens the Dhaula Kuan region has faced small earthquakes before. He pointed to another 4.6 magnitude event from 2006 and stated these geological conditions naturally lead to such earthquakes in the region. According to the specialist measurement, aftershocks will reach less powerful levels with a strength difference of 1.2 magnitudes below the main earthquake.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi took charge by asking people to stay composed while telling them to keep watch for earthquakes that might follow. Local emergency services in Delhi showed there were no immediate injuries or building harm during the earthquake.
People all over Delhi-NCR shared social media videos showing their houses shaking when the quake happened and they joined together in front of their homes. People returned to their normal routines after safety checks even though the earthquake created alarm at first.
