2025 Tamil Nadu State Public Holidays List
Using the Negotiable Instruments Act of 1881 Tamil Nadu has declared 23 days as public holidays for 2025. Among other things, state government offices, projects, businesses and boards will be exempt from these holidays. For Vijaya Dasami and Gandhi Jayanthi in 2025, October 2 has been designated as a public holiday.
The Government of Tamil Nadu passed the following orders regarding the observance of Holidays in the State of Tamil Nadu for the year 2025 states an order issued by the government on November 22, 2024.
These following 23 designated days will be public holidays in addition to Sundays, New Year’s Day (January 1, Wednesday), Pongal (January 14, Tuesday), Thiruvalluvar Day (January 15, Wednesday), Uzhavar Thirunal (January 16, Thursday) and Republic Day (January 26, Sunday) are the five days that have been designated as public holidays in January 2025.
The public holiday in February 2025 is Thai Poosam which falls on Tuesday February 11th.
In March 2025, there are two public holidays. Sunday, March 30th is Telugu New Year’s Day and Monday, March 31st is Idu’l Fitr.
Three public holidays fall in April 2025, Mahaveer Jayanthi (April 10, Thursday), Tamil New Year’s Day/the anniversary of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s birth (April 14, Monday), Good Friday (April 18, Friday) and the annual shutting of accounts for commercial and cooperative banks (April 1, Tuesday).
In Tamil Nadu, May Day (Thursday, May 1) will be a public holiday. Muharram (Sunday, July 6) and Bakrid (Saturday, June 7), also known as Idul Azha, will be public holidays.
Independence Day (Friday, August 15), Krishna Jayanthi (Saturday, August 16) and Vinayakar Chathurthi (Wednesday, August 27) are the three publicly observed days in August 2025. The other public holidays in 2025 are Deepavali (October 20, Monday), Ayutha Pooja (October 1, Wednesday), Vijaya Dasami/Gandhi Jayanthi (October 2, Thursday), Milad-un-Nabi (September 5, Friday) and Christmas (December 25, Thursday).
