‘X’ aka Twitter Won’t Be Free Anymore, Elon Musk Hints
Would you like to pay just for your existence on X (Twitter)? Well, Elon Musk has made an announcement and is probably collecting users’ feedback for now.
Elon Musk is the owner of the microblogging social media platform X, which was formerly known as Twitter. Musk is planning to put his social media platform behind paywall, which simply means that every X user will have to pay for its subscription fees.
The platform is facing the issues of bots. Musk believes that make the entire platform a paid service would tackle the large number of automated accounts, which used to spread misinformation.
Elon Musk explained that the bots used to cost very little. If they impose a small monthly fee, it would increase their operating cost, which will lead to reduced bots usage.
Musk only mentioned that it will be a small amount of money. He didn’t reveal the exact amount of monthly subscription fees.
His recent announcement reminded people of his previous decision. Last time he had announced the replacement of Twitter’s blue tick verification system with a payment model. This payment model used to offer users several benefits.
X (Twitter) has already implemented the premium subscription plans which cost premium users $8 per month. This subscription plan was initially called ‘Twitter Blue’, later renamed as ‘X Premium’.
The subscription offers premium features including checkmarks (badges), post editing and ranking prioritization.
This is true that X (Twitter) is facing the challenge of combating bots. Elon Musk has mentioned this before.
He had also revealed his intention to kill down bots, during a conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. He had said that he wants to make the social media space safer.

Most of the users are not happy with this decision and they are making a counter question to Elon Musk who had promised to avail free speech, before acquiring this platform. They are likely to leave the platform!
While some industry experts are predicting that there won’t be any effect to X (Twitter) in terms of the users, as Twitter stood firm even when several alternatives came to the market.
However there are also some rumors in the market that the platform can’t generate enough revenue, even after the ‘X Premium’ subscription model. Thus Elon Musk is planning to integrate another paid model.
