World Sight Day 2022: International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB) continued the campaign ‘Love Your Eyes’ for World Sight Day 2022.
The purpose of World Sight Day is to increase public awareness of eye health. Every year, it takes place on the second Thursday in October.

Theme of World Sight Day 2022
The International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB) has declared that this year’s theme will be “Love Your Eyes,” carrying on from previous year.
This follows the campaign’s achievement from the previous year. 35 lakh people promised to put their eye health first.
The Love Your Eyes campaign encourages people to take good care of their eyes and aims to draw attention to the more than a billion people worldwide who are blind or have low vision yet lack access to eye care services.
In order to educate politicians and decision-makers on the value of eye health, IAPB is requesting that sight screenings be conducted in national parliaments, legislatures, and presidential and royal palaces.
History of World Sight Day
The issue of global blindness was brought to the forefront of the international community in the middle of the 1970s by Sir John Wilson and others.
As a result, on January 1, 1975, the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB) was established.

The founding president was Sir John Wilson. Its original members were the International Council of Ophthalmology (ICO) and the World Blind Union (WBU).

The organization is recognized for launching numerous initiatives around the world pertaining to sight, eye care, danger of contracting eye illnesses, and treatments to restore sight.

Nearly 200 IAPB Member organizations worldwide promote World Sight Day, according to the IAPB’s official website.
